Understand the local ecosystem and the differences between terrestrial and aquatic worlds with Underwater Naturalist
The Underwater Naturalist Specialty course covers key differences and groupings of marine life and ecosystems. Use the skills as well as the knowledge you gain so you can discover new creatures next time you dive, even if you have dived the site many times before!
If you are at least 10 years old and a PADI Open Water Diver or higher you can enrol in the Underwater Naturalist Course.
What will you learn:
- Key differences between the terrestrial and aquatic worlds
- Major aquatic life groupings, interactions and information that dispels myths
- Responsible interactions with aquatic life
During this course you will learn more about symbioses, underwater ecology and above all aquatic plant/animal habitats. Furthermore, you will notice behaviours and creatures that you may have previously missed. Once completed, not only will you understand more about the local ecosystem but also be able to get a closer look at marine life.
How many dives will you do:
You will complete two scuba dives from our boat or shore.
What equipment will you use:
In addition to basic scuba equipment, you will also use a data slate to record your observations. A fish ID card is great to use as a reminder of what creature is swimming past you.
